Loved reading Daymond John's back story - face it, entrepreneurial narratives are fascinating! I know that area of Queens fairly well - my grandfather had a deli on Springfield Gardens back in the 1950s, right where the Belt Way is now. And my husband, kids and I lived, in the 1980s, in Hillcrest and then Holliswood. So much creativity coming out of these enclaves of Queens! And Daymond seems to exemplify this. I grew to admire his mom in this picture - she seemed to be the creative entrepreneur type also, inspirational. The opening scene/chapter seemed to serve as an intense reminder of how his story might have played out under different circumstances. It is also rather remarkable that the direction Daymond's story takes is to go on to help other budding entrepreneurs -- rather than, for instance, to just take the money and run, or take the money and just use it only to make more money. I highly recommend the book - well-written, a fascinating story, of special interest not only to entrepreneurs and people from south Queens ( :=), but for those who simply like memoirs and/or inspirational stories.

This book was brought to my attention via Shark Tank and Mr. Daymond John's appearance on the show. I really cant believe it took me two years to purchase this book!

Beside being a Shark Player on the hit tv show Mr. Daymond John is busy running his empire but he takes the time to talk to people via Twitter and it like having a personal mentor.

I think this book is a must have and it is not going to tell you how to duplicate his success but it will tell you how he went about it and what you should do and shouldn't do.

The core of this book is how the Fubu's empire came about from birth to infancy and to being a global fashion player today.

It is a very unique book worth adding to your collection if you are serious about becoming a 1099 filer as opposed to a W2.

The book opens your eyes to opportunities in the business world and he strongly encourage you to pursue your passion.
Great read, very insightful and entertaining. It was informative but not boring, I particularly enjoyed the Hip Hip history lesson and references. She’d light on things I didn’t even know and I thought I knew a lot about Hip Hop fashion etc. I would and have recommend this book to any and everyone esspecilly young entrepreneurs.
A lot of reviews insinuating this is a book for black men. This is a book for EVERY man who wants to learn about starting a business, especially one that influences or rides trends.

Great business insights into just how informal you can start out and still make it. Some hilarious stories I can't even believe he put out in public, but respect him for doing so.

A very fast read that was both entertaining and informative. If you enjoyed The 50th Law (amazing book) by Robert Greene then you will enjoy this.
Daymond's story may have been his roadmap out of the ghetto. But we all have hurdles and obstacles in life. I'm a suburban white guy trying to escape slavery from corporate America by selling vegan cheesecakes online. The book taught me about partnering, making the best of your current assets, and planning for the future. Thanks to one of my favorite sharks. Avi Strauss
Wonderful honest memoir. I read this for a graduate psych community mental health assignment. Raymond John delves into the growing into manhood from a diverse and complex yet primarily marginalized New York community, to a strong confident and compassionate millionaire. I was enlightened, entertained, and have a great respect for his journey and person.
I truly enjoyed this book. I felt like I was having a real conversation with him, as If he were giving me advice as he shared all his experiences and journey to where he is today. It also reminded me that I need to get back to my hustle, got a little complacent and lost my drive somewhere along the way. Thanks Daymond, tonight I'm sitting down and writing out my business plan and I won't let anything get in my way.

One thing I enjoyed reading bout was how you were very generous and then started saying no and everyone seemed to manage, I chuckled when I read it because I know I have a hard time saying no to people, even when I've been flat broke I've given my last dime to someone else who seemed to need it more than I did. I loved how you saw deeper than what was on the surface, like the puzzles with your mom, I admire your moms courage to mortgage the house and not work to dedicate her time to you, now that's a super mom. Wow, so many things that I enjoyed in this book that I know I will be reading it again. I am from your generation, and we are a different breed, I admire your persistence and courage to keep on keeping on even though it seemed like everything was pretty much against you. Oh, and I love love loved reading about LL, I've had a crush on him since I was a kid -) (me and a million other women haha) anyway, stay humble, stay blessed and I'll keep watching you on shark tank.
I really enjoy reading books by successful entrepreneurs and I've read three books by the Shark Tank investors. I thought Daymond's book was awesome. He really broke down his story and made it fun. What I really enjoyed about his story is that I learned things about the African American community that I found incredibly interesting. What influences the way clothing is kicked off and makes its move into the world was so cool.

When I was finished with the book my head was spinning with specialty food products that I could create and sell in the African American community ( Daymond writes about how this market is wide open) Products created by African Americans for African Americans. Hot sauces, frozen foods and on and on! Even had recipes and names I was coming up with! Only thing is Im not African American! Should that stop me? LMAO.

Daymond John is a brilliant guy. He sees opportunities where most don't because he thinks out of the box. And in a big way!

This book is a real eye opener for EVERYONE and if you're an African American thinking about buying this book this white boy is telling you that you GOTTA get it! It could change your life.
