Education has mostly consisted of reading, writing, and arithmetic with little thought given to those capabilities we possess, such as intuition, or those forces which affect us, such as the biological clocks. Most such capabilities and forces are still viewed as being pseudoscience, but your awareness and practice of these principles may perfect them into teaching principles which you can use in your daily teaching.

HANDBOOK-Applying Metaphysical Principles In Teaching eBook Karl F. Hollenbach Reviews
I think most of us would agree that the quality of education that our children are recieving in the public schools today is lacking and one of the problems could be that we are not teaching our children how to "think". As Mr. Hollenbach points out in his book, Handbook Applying Metaphysical Principals in Teaching,"Education has mostly consisted of reading, writing and arithmetic with little thought given to those capabilities we possess..."
Whether you're an educator or a parent the views expressed in this book will change the way you think about teaching as well as the way you have come to understand the reponsibility of the teacher.
Mr. Hollenbach has successfully explained the esoteric philosophy on metaphysics in the classroom in this book and has done so using laymans terms, making it easier than ever for parents and educators to apply these practices to their teaching method.
The principle message that I received from this book was that the mind must be opened before it can be taught, and that the application of these principles in teaching will do just that. This is a must read for all educators and parents who want to insure that their children recieve the best possible education.
A fascinating examination of 'metaphysical' or as they are more commonly referred to now, new-age or esoteric ideas and principles and how they can be used in a learning environment. Book was published in 1978, but still provides plenty of interesting information to an open-minded reader.
Topics covered are
AURA
CORRESPONDENCE
CYCLES
DUALITY
KARMA
MEDITATION
REALITY AND ACTUALITY
REINCARNATION
and more.
My personal favorite was the chapter on Mediation. Author mentioned an interesting accelerated learning technique developed in Bulgaria and called Suggestopedia, where students were a taught in relaxing atmosphere, that allowed them to calm their minds, so that the children were able to absorb enormous amounts of information in short periods of time. My own experience also suggests that calm and relaxed mind learns faster and retains more information longer.
Book is written in a scholarly prose, with many studies cited. Granted, some of the studies were from Soviet block countries and might look somewhat suspect to a Westerner, but it only underlines the fact that more research is needed.
Overall, this is an illuminating little volume that would be a great addition to anybody who has an interest in parapsychology and related disciplines.
Let me first say I am not a professional educator. That being said, I still found this to be a fascinating and intriguing work. No "idiot's guide to ...", Karl Hollenbach's explanation of metaphysical, spiritual, and psychical concepts require some focus to absorb. The less the reader is familiar with these kinds of concepts, the more arduous the book may be, but not impossible. Personally, I've been aware of metaphysical work for nearly 30 years, so I was able to enjoy the way Hollenbach applies them to teaching. I stay in close communication with teachers in my family and I can see how they would greatly benefit from applying these methods into their classroom leadership. At first, I thought this might be about how to teach metaphysics in the classroom, but his process is not so pretentious. Instead, he explains very fully each concept such as auras, cycles, karma, mediation, etc., and then offers specific ways of applying these within one's teaching methods. I wish that at least one of my twelve teachers throughout my public school education could have read and been able to apply Hollenbach's work. That would have been an incredible school year and one in which I might have learned as much as in my other eleven years together. If you are a teacher, you cannot lose by reading this and at least attempting to apply these principals to your work in the classroom.
Although I am a person who loves to contemplate, ruminate, mediate, and reflect, I have not really caught onto the whole "metaphysical" thing. I did not really expect this book recommendation to be decipherable. On the contrary, there was a great deal of the book was understandable, even helpful.
The Applying Metaphysical Principals in Teaching outlines the major target areas that metaphysical practitioners pass down to their students. On the surface, this sounds really "above your head" kind of knowledge, but the chapters were broken down into some easy to understand concepts like Karma, Visualization and Transcendentalism. These are issues that I am interested in, so it was easier to understand and follow along. In fact, some sections even had a "Deepak Chopra" feel to them.
On the other hand, there were some sections that did go "over my head". Those were the sections that covered how to translate some of these concepts into real life. That was unhelpful to me because I'm just a student in my own spiritual tradition! It was interesting to see the explanations and time and care given to those instructions because it shows the author's expertise in this field. If you're a teacher of metaphysics, you should be able to understand, assess, and adapt this to your students.
Note If you're not into metaphysics or things like visualization and transcendentalism, this won't be book for you. If you are into that kind of stuff, you might something useful. It's an older book, but something worthwhile to take a look at.
Pros
Some helpful content-The content may provide some limited information to those just getting started on blogs, but the organization needs to be better to help them find that helpful information.
Interesting concepts- This is definitely what provoked my interest to continue reading. I am familiar with these terms, but never actually knew that someone could actually attempt to teach them.
Quick read- Unlike other books on this topic, this book is short and sweet. You can read either the whole book in one sitting or pick and choose the topics that you want to read.
Cons
Focus & Limited applicability- As mentioned above, the book's audience is very limited. If you're not into the topic of metaphysics (specifically as an instructor) this book may have limited if any use.
