Out of Abaton Book 1 The Wooden Prince eBook John Claude Bemis

Great read! Mr. Bemis has taken an old story and added an amazing twist of fantasy, magic, and a touch of steampunk without losing any of the original characters. The way he takes the basic story and creates a new world for the adventure and all of the new characters to develop was truly fun to read. I absolutely loved, am only disappointed that I have to wait a year for volume II.

Out of Abaton Book 1 The Wooden Prince eBook John Claude Bemis Reviews

John rediscovered one of my favorite childhood characters, Pinocchio and placed he and his old friends in an alternate and mysterious adventure. John has built a world filled with magic, mystery and machinery. I love his sense of imagery and characterization! Well done, John Claude Bemis!
What a fun read! Loved his first trilogy and when I discovered he had a new book, purchased immediately. You won't want to put the book down, a fun book about friendship and "doing the right thing", not to mention a great twist on the story of Pinnochio. A great gift for young kids and adult readers too!
This was a wonderful retelling of a classic story. I read aloud with my sons (6.5 and 9 years old) and they looked forward to reading together each chapter. There's great adventure, gorgeous detail, and just enough magic to keep the excitement up. As we worked our way through the books, we frequently had conversations about the settings, the characters and the plot-- even when it wasn't time to read. The story kept them engaged enough that it had them thinking throughout the day. It was so much fun to share their excitement and to enjoy an old favorite story with a new twist.
What a wonderful book! I normally read non-fiction books, but a friend recommended this book and I really took to it. Bemis’ characters are so amazing! Take Bulbin, a gnome who labors away in a theater workshop. If there are multiple tasks that need to be completed, he simply divides into smaller gnomes, completes the tasks, and then re-combines into a single, larger gnome later. Crazy, right? This book is full of characters and plot lines that dazzle. On top of it all, Bemis has added depth and meaning to the classic tale of Pinnochio. Read this book if you have the chance!
I'm so glad I pre-ordered! When it arrived in the mail, I sat right down and poured through it. I am a middle grades teacher and am always looking for a good book to recommend to my students. I went to class the next week (when it had just reached book stores) and recommended it to all my 6th graders. Now, I get to re-read it as a read- aloud to my six year old daughter. Great action. Great re-imagining of the Pinocchio story. My favorite part was John's new twist on Gepetto in the "belly of the whale"! What a great image, and so full of adventure! I can't wait for book II!
This steampunk retelling of the Pinocchio story completely swept me away. I became a Bemis fan after reading the Clockwork Dark trilogy. I love how those books were infused with Southern American folklore and felt sure that he wouldn’t be able to pull anything of that magnitude off again, but whoa! Bemis transported me to Italy during the time of the Venetian empire in grand style. Deep world-building interwoven into the plot plus the empathy Bemis builds for Pinocchio’s journey to become a real boy made page turning easy. Magic carpets, flying airmen, an immortal Prester John, elemental creatures, alchemy, automa, seven-league boots, and the darling and smart Lazuli. What else could I want? How about Book 2!
I was really curious, when I started this book, about how the author would take this well-known tale and make it fresh again. What John Claude Bemis spun from old material was like Rumplestilskin spinning gold from hay. I have to admit that I do not like the original story of Pinocchio. It always left me with the heeby jeebies with its undertones of child abuse and warnings to kids of the dangers that exist in the world. Bemis captivatingly draws you into a world of stunning detail with the craftmanship of a true artist. I savoured every chance I got to sit down and read this poignant tale, because it so adeptly paints the picture of the ever-evolving emotional and physical journey of the automa Pinocchio against the fantastical and mesmerizing backdrop of a re-imagined Italy with all its fascinating Abatonian creatures. Bemis breathes new life into all of the characters (loved the blue fairy) along with adding the futuristic, almost AI element to the story to make a captivating novel that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Great read! Mr. Bemis has taken an old story and added an amazing twist of fantasy, magic, and a touch of steampunk without losing any of the original characters.
